The Japanese American Association of Lane County is hosting this year’s Obon and Taiko Festival at Yujin Gakuen. Join us on campus for one of our favorite annual festivals! Yujin Gakuen will be hosting our favorite games and activities!
Obon dancing, or Bon Odori, is a Japanese summer tradition that brings communities together to honor ancestors through music and simple group dances. Learning the dances is a fun way to participate in Japanese culture, connect with others, and feel more comfortable joining local Obon celebrations.
No! The dances are repetitive and designed for everyone to join.
You are still welcome to participate. Obon dancing is about community, remembrance, and sharing tradition. Come ready to learn, follow the instructors, and participate respectfully.
Any comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to move in are perfect!
