Before 2002, the PTO was called 友の会 (Tomonokai), a familiar Japanese name for a friends’ or supporters’ association. Here’s how YG PTO supports YG:
Japanese in the Classroom
Japanese-Language Classrooms
The PTO helps pay for tools used for Japanese-language classroom instruction.
Classroom Interns
PTO supports a year-long intern and three short-term intern groups from Japan during the school year.
Festivals, Food, and Family Gatherings
Cultural Events
The PTO is responsible for funding and organizing Oshogatsu and Kodomo no Hi and helps YG participate in cultural events throughout our community.
Family Gatherings
Summer Recess playdates, our Back-to-School Picnic, festivals, and volunteer opportunities give YG families many opportunities to come together throughout the year.
Field Trips, Classroom Extras, and Thank-Yous
Classroom Needs and School Experiences
The PTO helps fund staff-directed classroom needs, a second field trip for each grade, and promotion support for kindergarten and fifth grade.
Teachers and Staff
The PTO coordinates family participation in Teacher Appreciation Week and Classified Staff Appreciation Week activities and gifts.
The PTO Board
The PTO board coordinates meetings, programs, family communication, finances, volunteer support, and other work throughout the school year.
